Can you pay ChatGPT to recommend your business?

No. There's no way to buy a spot in ChatGPT's recommendations and no form where a local business submits itself. ChatGPT writes each answer from what it finds on the web at that moment. When OpenAI began testing ads in early 2026, it said ads are labeled, shown apart from the answer, and don't change what ChatGPT recommends.

People search for "how to list my business on ChatGPT" expecting something like a Google Business Profile. For local service businesses there isn't one. ChatGPT doesn't keep a directory of plumbers or dentists; it searches when it's asked, reads a handful of pages and lists, and names the businesses those sources support.

That's also why nobody can sell you a guaranteed placement. Be wary of offers that promise to put you "in ChatGPT" for a fee: no one controls what the AI says, and an answer that names you this week can change next week.

What you can pay for is the work that changes what ChatGPT finds: a clear page on your own site for the service people ask about, consistent details across your listings, and a place on the directories and "best of" lists it reads for your category and city. In our 2026 Dallas–Fort Worth study, 58% of the top-rated businesses ChatGPT left out weren't on at least one list it cited.

Renownly does that work. The Sprint covers one service in one city for $497, one time; keeping that service recommended is $750 a month. Start with a free AI visibility report to see what ChatGPT and Google's AI say about your category today.
