ChatGPT names the surgeons it can verify: board certification, the procedures they perform, hospital privileges and training, and before-and-after evidence, stated on the practice's own site and confirmed by sources such as RealSelf, the ASPS directory and city "best plastic surgeon" lists. Plastic surgery had the widest gap in our study.
In our 2026 study across 14 Dallas–Fort Worth cities, 60% of plastic surgeons with 4.6+ stars and 60+ reviews were not named by ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode, the highest share of the 12 industries we checked. In one city, the top Google Maps result with more than 800 reviews was left out while a practice with 15 reviews was named.
Patients researching surgery ask detailed questions, and AI answers favor surgeons whose credentials are easy to confirm. Give each surgeon a page with board certification and training, give each procedure its own page, and make sure your practice details match across your listings.
Medical advertising rules apply: publish only claims you can support, and keep patient photos and testimonials within your board's and state's rules.
