How does an HVAC company get recommended by ChatGPT?

ChatGPT recommends HVAC companies whose services, service area, license and brands are easy to confirm: written clearly on their website and repeated the same way on Bing Places, Yelp, BBB and the directories it reads. A large review count helps customers decide, but it doesn't decide whether the AI names you.

In our 2026 study across 14 Dallas–Fort Worth cities, 43% of HVAC companies with 4.6+ stars and 60+ reviews were not named by ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode for "best HVAC company in [city]". In one city, a company with more than 6,000 reviews and a top-two spot on Google Maps was left out while one with 19 reviews was named.

The gap is usually readability, not reputation. Answers favor companies whose pages say exactly what they do (AC repair, furnace replacement, maintenance plans), which cities they serve, and which equipment brands they're certified for, and whose listings agree with each other.

Start with the basics the AI checks: a claimed Bing Places listing (it feeds ChatGPT), the same business details everywhere, and a page for each core service. Then re-check the same question on both engines, because they often name different companies.
